My garden is the inspiration for my creations. So many colors and textures flowing through my flower bed and a funky spiky seed head that feeds the finches in the fall & winter. I am now creating a whole garden of these whimsical flowers trying different color & fabric combinations. I use many reclaimed textiles in my work. The petals for this piece are made from a tablecloth from my Mother-in-law. It was well-used and had faded to a soft patina. Lined with batting and heavily machine-quilted with a center wire for shape. The seeds are made from tight weave Dutch wax prints, stuffed hard and hand-sewn together.
Method: Machine quilted, hand & machine constructed
Materials: cotton & other textiles, aluminum wire, polyester stuffing, cotton batting, thread.
